Feeling Helpless
So for the first time in my life as a mommy, I felt utterly helpless this weekend. My little man is a breast feeder and from everything I’ve heard, breast feeders normally are not big spitters. Well, my little man did a lot more than spit on quite a few occassions this weekend. Saturday morning I wake up and sit my little guy on the bed while I check my email. I turn around and notice that he has thrown up, probably all of his breakfast he ate two hours prior. So I decide that I should feed him since it looked like his tummy was probably empty, but he was really fussy as he was eating and acted like he didn’t really want to eat. Turns out, it was because his tummy hurt. He left all of that on the couch as well. So I did some research and it said to reintroduce food slowly, 5 minutes at a time for 8 hours and then resume normal feeding if there’s no more throwing up episodes. There wasn’t so everything got back to normal.
Come Sunday afternoon it starts up again. We were on our way to pick up my husband from the airport when the baby started fussing, so I pulled into the parking lot and tried to feed him. He was fussing still and acting like he did the other morning when he tossed his breakfast, so we stopped. I tried changing him and burping him and he was still fussy. When daddy got there, I handed over the baby and he tossed his cookies all over daddy. My husband couldn’t believe everything that came out of him. The same thing happened two more times in the next 3 hours and because his wet diapers were barely wet at all in the past two days, I decided to call his pediatrician because I thought he might be dehydrated. The pediatrician advised us to give him Pediatlyte, which he absolutely hated.
It was so sad to see my little guy whimpering and moaning in discomfort. I didn’t know what to do to make him better, but after sleeping most of Sunday, he appears to be doing well. He had no throwing up episodes today and he was his normal smiley self. No fever or anything either. I sure hope he got over whatever little bug he had.
