Argh!!!

(Note: Post written by Jen at the hospital)

Yesterday my baby got admitted to the hospital for a urinary tract infection. The nurse we had was wonderful. Her shift was over around 7 am. The nurse that came in to take over “appeared” to be very nice. She was talking to and playing with the little one and I thought she was great.

However, the rest of the day went downhill from there. This new nurse was super anal and a stickler for rules. There is a dumb rule that only 2 people can visit the baby at once—that includes me. My mom and grandma came in and one of us had to leave. Whoever had to leave usually went to the play room (where no children were playing, mind you) and waited until the other was done. The nurse kept saying only 4 adults could be in the room at one time and we had to only have 2 because at any given time a new baby might be admitted and they got 2 guests as well.

So once when there were three visitors, two of us left the room to go to the activity room. The nurse came in and said since there wasn’t another child that we all could be in there, but that we could no longer wait in the activity room (it’s only for kids) and we had to wait in the lobby. So we all go in the room and a few minutes later she opens the door and says, there’s too many people in here and somebody else is waiting. You guys have to leave. What??? You just told us we could be here. Of course she denies it and said we misunderstood her.

The nurse proceeds to call the front desk and ask why she is allowing 5 people at a time up. She NEVER let up 5 people. Every time we got a visitor after that, the front desk called and asked how many people we had in here. Sheesh. The baby got lots of visitors today. Grandma, great-grandma, aunt Linda, uncle Jim, and daddy.

To top off the frustration in my day, the freaking machine that keeps his vitals kept beeping and going off. It was annoying. Oh yeah, the other nurse kept telling me that I couldn’t do things that the nurse the night before said we could do. So I’m a little frustrated because they tell me I can’t turn the silencer on the alarms and that I have to wait for them to come and do it. Sometimes that dang thing can go off for 10 minutes and nobody notices it. What if my baby stops breathing in the middle of the night? I have to wait for them to hear it? Argh!!! I can’t wait til we leave this place.
